Privacy Policy

This is the privacy policy for chrislowe.pro and The Practice newsletter, operated by Syntax Labs LLC. It should not take you 20 minutes to read. Here is exactly what we collect, why we collect it, and what we do with it.

If you join the newsletter, you give us your email address. That's the only personal information we collect. I use it to send you the newsletter and relevant updates on building resilient systems. That is it.

We do not collect your name, your location, your phone number, or anything else. If you did not give it to us directly, we don't have it.

We use it to send you emails you asked for.

We will never sell your email address. We will never trade it. We will never hand it to a marketer. We will never use it to spam you with things you didn't sign up for. The list exists for one reason: to deliver what we promised.

Your email address is stored in Airtable (our subscriber database) and sent through Resend (our transactional email provider). Both services have access to your email address solely to facilitate storage and delivery. Neither uses it for their own marketing.

This site uses PostHog — a product analytics tool configured to minimize what it collects. It runs with persistence: 'memory', meaning no cookies or tracking data are stored on your device between sessions. Your IP address is discarded before it's stored, and the location data your browser's IP would otherwise reveal — city, zip code, exact coordinates — is stripped from every event immediately after collection. The only location signal that survives is country.

What we can see: aggregate data like total page views, referral sources, and which country an audience is reading from. This tells us which content is working and roughly where readers are. It does not tell us who you are, what city you're in, or anything else specific to you.

No cookies are placed on your device. City-level, zip-level, and coordinate-level location data are never retained.

You are in control.

• Unsubscribe anytime. Every email has an unsubscribe link at the bottom. One click and you're off the list.
• Request full deletion. If you want us to delete your email address entirely, email us (address below). We will remove it from Airtable and confirm.

If you are in the EU, this covers your rights under GDPR. If you are in California, this covers your rights under CCPA. If you are anywhere else, the same rules apply — we just think it's the right way to operate.

For full transparency, here are the third-party services that interact with your data:

• Airtable — stores subscriber email addresses.
• Resend — sends transactional and newsletter emails.
• PostHog — analytics configured to discard IP addresses and location data more precise than country; memory-only, no cookies.
• Netlify — hosts the website and runs serverless functions.

None of these services are given permission to use your data for their own marketing purposes.

If something material changes, we will update this page. The date at the top of this document reflects the last revision. We are not in the habit of making quiet, sneaky edits.
